I'm Jess

It was a hot day in August when I sat with a mom named Sarah as she described how her 8 year old son was slipping away.

He had started hitting kids at school. He was hitting her. He was angry, and in pain.

"It just seems like he can't slow down, turn off, know what's appropriate and when, you know?" she told me.

Tom had few friends, several tics, he was anxious. He wasn't sleeping well, had terrible skin, was alarmingly skinny and he was so picky with food that the family couldn't eat together anymore.
