Find Your Plan

Nice To Meet You

I'm Jess, creator of the Resilient Kids Collective.

Families find me when their kids are anxious, moody & stressed and they want to find natural ways to help them thrive.

What We're About.... (in a nutshell)

I have yet to meet a parent who doesn't want resilient mental and physical health for their kids. It's what we all want from day one.

And yet, as our kids grow and we find ourselves exhausted and just struggling to get through our days and keep our kids safe, it slips from our reach.

We bring resilient health back within reach.

My team and I help parents implement systematic food and lifestyle changes that help their kids calm down, have better poops, learn better, focus better, feel better, get better sleep, have more energy, have fewer sick days, rebound from stress better, stay off medication...
...and simply be happier.

That's a resilient child, and it's what we work on no matter what diagnosis your child might have.

When Your Child Is Healthy They Can Do Anything... regardless of diagnosis.

I'm a Certified Functional Nutrition Practitioner, a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Practitioner, am Board Certified In Holistic Nutrition and am an author, speaker and educator.

But first and foremost, I'm mom to three beautiful boys and partner to an amazing artist. We are purpose-driven entrepreneurs trying to simplify our lives, enjoy the process of raising our kids, and do our little bit to make a difference in the world. I've worn many hats in my life, but education, health and personal development are the common threads that tie all my experiences together.

How I Got Here...

In my 20s and 30s I was a high school teacher. And I noticed quickly that kids were struggling to cope.

Learning, mood, and mental health struggles were common, but so were physical issues like recurrent illnesses and infections, allergies, sleep and digestive conditions, and skin problems.

Mental and physical complaints had become so commonplace that we spent a significant amount of time strategizing about them in teacher meetings.

Many students responded well to our creative teaching strategies and started to cope better, but many did not and referrals for assessments & medication or even expulsion became our only recourse.

I felt we had failed these kids.

I wondered if there was something deeper we were missing.

It was while working as a high school teacher that my interest in resilience was born.

I left school teaching to study nutrition & holistic health with a particular interest in the impact of food and stress on child development.

I graduated top of my class from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in 2007 as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist™, (Certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant™ in the province of Alberta), and, like most youngsters, I thought I had answers.

I had found that missing piece... that mind-body connection I had a hunch about. And I was ready to shout what I had learned from the rooftops to parents and teachers everywhere.

I know now that my learning had only just begun.

When I had my first child, my whole world changed.

I realized right quick that there's nothing simple about keeping a family healthy.

I realized that it's one thing to have information and it's another thing entirely to apply all that knowledge.

What's more, it's one thing to know how to support our own health and another thing entirely to try to change the health of another person - especially one we love with the deepest kind of intensity but who has food sensitivities, picky or aggressive behavior, or who can't sit down to get a bite in!

Add in sleep deprivation, stress, and the pace of daily living, and it's enough to throw even superheroes over the edge.

So I set my mind to simplifying the job of keeping a family healthy so parents could raise resilient kids... And The Raising Resilience Process was born.

I discovered that the key to worrying less and enjoying parenting more is to focus on the factors that support Resilient Health. So I set my sights on developing a process to help parents do this.

The process for Raising Resilience I outline in my book is a two-step process: identify and remove stressors and barriers, and feed in a way that deeply nourishes our natural processes of self-regulation.

In the Roadmap To Resilient Kids — the system I created and use inside our Resilient Kids Collective — we break the process into 3 phases and use nutrition, lifestyle, supplements, and functional testing to support the foundational systems that make the body work.

When we support the body, the brain works better. Kids learn better, feel better, sleep better, relax, focus, have better skin, and have more consistent energy.

My learning evolved as I worked with many mentors.

Among the most influential have been Dr Aimie Apigian and the Biology of Trauma & Attachment, Dr Elisa Song and functional pediatrics, Dr William Walsh and Psychiatry Redefined to better understand the biology of mood disorders, and The Neufeld Institute to further understand the attachment needs of children.

Through the years, I learned that while skills and relationships are key for kids, true resilience requires a strong nervous system that feels safe.

Since myriad physical factors inside our bodies affect our nervous system's cues of safety and threat, our physical health influences how we think, feel, act, and function.

This is what I have woven into the process I take parents through when we work together.

I have learned through more than a decade of study and practice that, when given the proper tools, guidance & strategy, parents can improve their child's ability to self-regulate, learn & thrive, while also improving their own energy, focus & drive.

When you learn strategies for raising resilient health, you feel empowered, confident, vibrant, in control and energized.

You give your child a gift of health while being able to worry less and enjoy more, and you help your child develop into their full potential.

The key is to stay systematic and focus on what matters most.
